2. Alec Trevelyan – Goldeneye (1995)

Bond villains tend to set the gold standard of dumb plots, but by far the worst offender is Alec Trevelyan. Originally 006, James Bond’s fellow MI6 agent, Alec should really have been far smarter, but instead he exacts a plan so thoroughly idiotic that even to call him an ex-intelliengce operative is giving him far too much credit.
Like all Bond villains, Trevelyan’s plan is as convoluted as it is improbable, but it involves stealing all of the money from the Bank of England, then destroying London. As a (former) international spy, Trevelyan should be aware that this would devalue all of his stolen funds, rendering the theft of all that cash entirely pointless.
This is probably the dumbest part of his plan, but he’s also shown to be less than effective in his attempts to kill Bond, as well. Some of his efforts include strapping James into a helicopter and aiming the vehicle’s missiles at itself – apparently unaware that the vehicle was also equipped with an ejector seat. What’s wrong with a good old fashioned bullet to the head, Trevelyan?
