The long awaited trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong was today released at long last, and it didn’t disappoint.
The continuation of Legendary’s Monsterverse, this latest instalment will finally see the three initial movies – 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters – pay off in spectacular fashion, with the two iconic characters facing off in yet another epic showdown.
The premise is a return to the days of Kaiju movies – the Japanese monster genre that originally spawned the infamous giant lizard – re-imagining the clash first depicted in 1962 Japanese film King Kong vs. Godzilla.
The new trailer reveals a key element of the upcoming movie’s plot: namely, that Kong will be fighting on the side of the humans, while much of the film’s human cast work to discover what it is that’s provoked Godzilla to attack mankind so vehemently.
One of the other things that’s clear from the trailer is that the movie won’t be short of star power, with Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler reprising their roles from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Rebecca Hall, Alexander Skarsgård, and Brian Tyree Henry joining the franchise.
Little more is known of the film’s story, but one thing’s for certain: it won’t be short on monster-on-monster action, and that’s something to get excited about (no, not that sort of action – there’s probably places on the internet for that sort of thing, but keep it out of theaters, please).
