5.Warm Bodies (2013)
Based on: Romeo and Juliet

You know what’s romantic? Zombies. Wait, you mean the living dead aren’t normal a symbol of romance? Oh, Warm Bodies, you crafty little film, with your subversive take on Shakespeare… we see you.
Based on the novel of the same name – which is, in turn, based on Romeo and Juliet – Warm Bodies follows the love story between R (Nicholas Hoult) and Julie (Teresa Palmer). R is a zombie, who slowly becomes more human as he falls further in love with Julie. The apocalyptic setting and the appearance of multiple undead characters makes Warm Bodies seem far less romantic than it actually is.
As weird as the concept sounds, Warm Bodies works incredibly well. It uses its bizarre premise to good thematic effect, enhancing Shakespeare’s familiar tale with a fresh spin. In that, it’s a great movie, even if it is an incredibly weird adaptation of Shakespeare’s work.
