1. Scary movie 2 (2001)
When ranking the Scary Movie franchise, we came to consider Scary Movie 2 the best of the bunch. The film spoofs House on Haunted Hill and The Exorcist, and also touches on elements of various other movies. It also pokes fun at the teen comedy genre as a whole, and at wider cinematic ideas and tropes.
In honesty, it’s not Scary Movie 2’s story or comedy that makes it the best of the franchise. It’s in the film’s cast that its potential lies, and it uses its actors to excellent effect. Anna Faris, Christopher Masterson, Regina Hall, Tori Spelling, Shawn Wayans, and Marlon Wayans are all good, but it’s Tim Curry, David Cross, and Chris Elliott that really make it great.
Cross and Elliot in particular are responsible for most of the film’s funniest moments, and although some of its comedy is a little dated, it holds up reasonably well. Scary Movie 2 represents every that made the franchise so popular, and despite being very much of its time deserves a great deal of respect. Ranking the Scary Movie franchise isn’t easy, but Scary Movie 2 stands out as the best movie in the series.
