2. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023)

Miles Morales as Spider-Man fighting Spot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

The sequel to Into the Spider-Verse continued Miles Morales’s story in a big way. This time, instead of having his own universe play host to a number of alternate Spider-people, Miles himself sets off across the Spider-Verse. Hold on, is that where they got the title from? Clever.

Everything is bigger: the action, the cast, the stakes. However, one thing that doesn’t quite work as well as the original is the story. Across the Spider-Verse occasionally sacrifices narrative integrity in order to wink at the audience with heavy-handed references to the MCU and other Spider-Man movies.

That said, it’s still a gorgeous film. Visually, it’s every bit as lovingly crafted as the original, with even more to feast your peepers on as Miles visits numerous realities. There’s very little not to love about Across the Spider-Verse, but it’s sadly not quite as good as its own predecessor.
