2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Movies that suffered from studio meddling - Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man fighting Jamie Foxx as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)

Depending on who you ask, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is either an underrated classic or an underwhelming non-starter. It’s pretty divisive, but it continues the story of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in appropriately epic fashion, featuring all the bells and whistles of modern superhero movies. However, according to its star, it was also one of those movies that suffered from studio meddling.

After hearing of the mixed reactions to the movie, Garfield cited the studio’s interference as the reason for its issues. Garfield claimed that the studio had cut “deep scenes” that helped to hold its many plot threads together. Considering one of the most common criticisms of the movie is that there was little connecting its many subplots, it’s entirely possible that Garfield has a point.

Another way in which it has been speculated that the studio interfered was in the film’s excessive teasing of future movies that never came. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 never delivered its teased sequel, but the repeated cramming in of hints at future stories certainly smacks of a studio attempting to build a successful franchise. Though this is speculative, it certainly seems to indicative even more studio meddling than Garfield suggested.
