1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

Honestly, I don’t have an issue with Kubrick. However, 2001: A Space Odyssey is so often listed among the greatest films of all time that it’s almost impossible for it to live up to its own hype.

In fact, not only does it fall short of its own reputation, but it’s actually quite widely considered a snooze-fest. With Kubrick’s artistic pomposity out in full force, 2001: A Space Odyssey might have boasted some groundbreaking effects and revolutionized sci-fi cinema, but it’s still almost incomprehensible when watched back today.

With its art-house feel and alienating haughtiness, 2001: A Space Odyssey might be a favorite of film snobs everywhere, but it distinctly lacks any mass appeal. It’s a landmark piece of cinema, but it really doesn’t belong on the pedestal it’s so often placed upon.
