9. Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Boxing movies are absolutely loaded with clichés, and Million Dollar Baby is no exception. However, not all boxing movies win four Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor), either, so it’s fair to say that Clint Eastwood’s 2004 sports drama enjoys a reputation above its peers.

Still, despite its impressive accolades, Million Dollar Baby is decidedly overrated.

Its story comes with a few twists and turns, but none of them are particularly innovative. In fact, the only real facets of Million Dollar Baby that set the film apart are its second act gut-punch and subsequent tragic ending. Outside of that, the 2004 boxing drama is generally unremarkable, with forgettable characters and transparent subtext.

It might be one of the most celebrated films of recent years, but it’s rarely listed among audiences’ favorite watches, which alone should be telling as to how overrated a movie it really is.
