3. Gwyneth Paltrow
Gwyneth Paltrow may be somewhat less relevant today than she was 10 or 20 years ago, but she’s still considered an A-lister. In recent years, her attention has seemingly been on creating vagina-scented candles and making controversial claims based on her own personal views. However, once upon a time, she was a Hollywood megastar, and she still enjoys a reputation as one of the film industry’s biggest stars.
With starring roles in all three MCU Iron Man movies and appearances in multiple Avengers movies and Spider-Man: Homecoming, Paltrow has still enjoyed some time in the spotlight in recent years. The success of the MCU and her recurring role as Pepper Potts in the franchise has helped to keep her stardom visible, further contributing to the idea that she’s still one of the world’s leading movie stars. However, this isn’t altogether well-deserved.
Many of Paltrow’s roles over the past decade have been pretty underwhelming, and her acting repertoire is hardly staggering. She’s not bad at delivering slightly endearing and gently overbearing characters with a sarcastic edge, but outside of that, her skillset seems particularly limited. Even looking back over her career, her greatest movies have all primarily relied upon other actors’ performances – such as in Se7en, in which Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman are the focus. The sad truth is that Gwyneth Paltrow simply isn’t as good as her reputation (and her success) suggest.
