2. Iron Sky (2012)

The dumb premise: After their defeat in World War II, a team of Nazis flew to the Moon, where they established a secret base. After spending years gathering their strength and inventing technological marvels, the Moon Nazis are ready to return. This time, they’ll conquer Earth once and for all.
Iron Sky‘s premise is as ridiculous as they come. The notion that Nazis were able to successfully reach and colonize Earth’s Moon is obviously a massive stretch of basic logic and historical plausibility. That the entire film is built around such an insane notion is utterly mind-blowing.
Did it work? Yes, it actually does. The thing about Iron Sky is that it actually knows how ridiculous it is. There’s no point at which this film seems to have been made entirely in earnest: it’s gently self-aware just enough that it’s stupid premise becomes subtly funny rather than outright nonsensical.
