1. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)

The dumb premise: He wasn’t just the 16th President of the United States of America: he was also a vampire hunter. When young Lincoln’s mother is killed by vampire, he embarks on a lifelong secret mission to hunt the creatures. Even during his presidency, he must contend with a caste of slave-owning vampires.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is based on the novel of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith, but that doesn’t make its premise any less silly. Taking a beloved historical figure and trying to rework the narrative to include mythical monsters is certainly an interesting choice, and it makes for an odd movie. However, with a tongue-in-cheek attitude and a supporting cast featuring Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Rufus Sewell, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter certainly has the makings of a solid film.
Does it work? Entirely debatable, but not really. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter features some decent action sequences, but it tries too hard to play things straight. Had it instead embraced how ridiculous its premise truly is, it might have stood a better chance, but trying to convince the audience that Lincoln really could have been a vampire hunter means that the film gets bogged down in its own nonsense more often than not.
