8. Thor – The MCU

Movie characters who changed between movies - Chris Hemsworth as Thor in the MCU

Opinions still vary drastically on the MCU. Some await every release with bated breath, while others have long since labelled it an overrated franchise. Surprisingly, for a franchise of its size, consistency isn’t really much of an issue. However, it does contain several movie characters who clearly changed between films, and few are as obvious as Thor.

Starting with 2011’s Thor, the Asgardian is a semi-serious Viking-type god/warrior (pretty in line with the comics, all things considered). Thor: The Dark World, for all its shortcomings, managed to keep this mostly intact. Then, for the character’s third solo movie, Taika Waititi was given the reins, and everything changed.

Thor: Ragnarok saw the character rewritten with a more comedic lilt to his actions. Suddenly, Thor wasn’t just an incredibly powerful Asgardian, but a comedian, too, cracking wise with alarming regularity. In fairness, it was a shift that increased the characters popularity massively, but that doesn’t make it any less jarring.
