4. Ghostbusters (1984)

If you were to ask the average person: “Who you gonna call?”, they’d likely give just one answer. In fact, there’s only one sensible answer that anyone could give, because even those who haven’t seen it know. You call the Ghostbusters.

Written by stars Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis and directed by the legendary Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters follows a team of scientists in New York City who embark upon a career of ghost catching. It also stars Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts. Though Ghostbusters has been categorized in many ways, the sci-fi label fits as well as any other.

Explaining what makes Ghostbusters so great is entirely redundant. It’s a pop culture staple and its reputation precedes it, so its inclusion here should hardly be surprising. Somehow, it’s more than just a movie: it’s a culutural phenomenon.
