9. Dumb & Dumber (1994)

Yes, it’s Carrey again – but it was the ’90s, what did you expect? In contrast to the previous entry, this one isn’t likely to be controversial at all, because Dumb & Dumber remains one of the best-loved comedies of all time. It features Carrey and Jeff Daniels as two friends who set out on a cross-country road trip to return a briefcase full of ransom money to a woman whose husband has been kidnapped.
Even the premise of Dumb & Dumber highlights both the stupidity and the good-naturedness of its protagonists, and that’s exactly what the film delivers upon throughout. Carrey’s Lloyd and Daniels’ Harry are idiots of the highest order, but they’re ultimately well-intentioned (and even quite sweet at times). It’s a story that’s as absurdly comic as it is heartwarming, and that’s a huge part of Dumb & Dumber‘s charm.
Of course, it’s also remembered as one of the most quotable and consistently funny comedies of all time. Practically every scene contains at least one laugh-out-loud moment, and though some of the humor might be a little low-brow, it all feels organic to the characters. It’s considered a classic for a reason, and is thoroughly deserving of a spot on this list.
