2. Plumbing Malfunction – Dumb And Dumber (1994)
Dumb and Dumber isn’t considered one of the best comedies of the ’90s for nothing. Its two protagonists, best friends Harry and Lloyd may not be very bright, but they’re certainly funny. As such, we don’t really feel sorry for them – they seem to be immune to embarrassment – but that doesn’t mean that they don’t create some awkward situations.
After Harry finds himself in a position to pursue a romantic relationship with the elegant Mary, he seizes the opportunity with both hands. However, this upsets his friend Llyod, who also likes Mary, prompting Lloyd to dose his friend with laxatives. While in Mary’s house, Harry feels nature calling, and unleashes a violently explosive bowel movement. Then he realizes that Mary’s toilet is broken.
It’s the sort of dating horror story we’ve all heard, and earnestly hope we never experience. The secondhand embarrassment makes us feel so uncomfortable that it’s clearly one of the most awkward movie scenes ever written. Even though Harry doesn’t often get embarrassed, he certainly was after this particular faux pas.
