6. Eyes Wide Shut’s Ritual & Batman Begins’ Wayne Manor
Mentmore Towers, Mentmore, Buckinghamshire, England
Stanley Kubrick is one of the most respected directors of all time, and Eyes Wide Shut was his final film before his death in 1999. It centers on a man who stumbles onto a secret society performing bizarre rituals and orgies – we’re generalizing, but that’s the gist, at least. The society’s escapades were shot at Mentmore Towers, in Buckhamingshire, England.
The building itself might be more familiar for its role in Batman Begins as the iconic Wayne Manor. Christopher Nolan’s groundbreaking superhero movie heavily featured Mentmore Towers as the impressive home of billionaire (and later vigilante) Bruce Wayne. It’s an imposing estate, so it makes perfect sense for both of these major cinematic uses.
Looking at the two movies, they have little in common. One is an action-focused inspection of a popular superhero, and the other is an erotic thriller. With one moving using Mentmore Towers as the scene of an orgy and the other as a staging ground for a Bat-themed crime-fighter, it’s probably easy enough to miss that these scenes were filmed in the same place.
