1. Tony Stark’s Mansion & Planet Of The Apes’ Ending

Point Dume State Beach, Malibu, California, USA

We’ve already explained the cultural importance of Iron Man‘s MCU status earlier in this list, so we won’t do it again. We will draw attention to Tony Stark’s impressive clifftop mansion, though, partly because it’s awesome but mostly for the purposes of this list. It’s set atop the cliffs at Point Dume State Beach in Malibu, California (which is roughly where Stark identifies it as being in-universe, too).

The location was also used to shoot one of the best movie endings of all time, albeit several decades earlier. 1968’s Planet of the Apes ends with the unforgettable revelation that the titular planet was Earth all along, with Charlton Heston lamenting that fact on his knees before a ruined Statue of Liberty. The scene was also shot on the shore of Point Dume State Beach.

We’re not about to compare the cultural relevance of Iron Man and Planet of the Apes, but both films are inarguably massive pieces of pop culture history. As such, it’s particularly crazy to think that the two scenes were filmed in the same place. At least, we think so: just imagine Tony Stark drinking his morning coffee by his window, watching a half-naked Charlton Heston wailing on the beach below. You’re welcome.
