3. Scary Movie 4 (2006)
2006’s Scary Movie 4 marked a slight improvement upon its predecessor. It’s still far from a brilliantly-made piece of comedic entertainment, but it offers everything the franchise had become known for. There are celebrity cameos, horror movie satire, and utterly nonsensical sequences that push the boundaries between funny and insane.
Scary Movie 4 parodies War of the Worlds and The Grudge, with elements of Saw. There are also further send-ups of movies such as Million Dollar Baby and The Village. As ludicrous as it sounds, Scary Movie 4 actually ties its multiple spoof stories together in a relatively coherent plot line, helping offer context to its comedic moments.
Is Scary Movie 4 a cinematic masterpiece? Definitely not. But it is funny, and it does spoof its chosen movies with a certain amount of comedic scrutiny, and that’s enough to make it better than some other films in the franchise.
