3. Sending Gotham’s Entire Police Force Into The Sewer – The Dark Knight Rises

Though Batman’s stories aren’t ever necessarily realistic, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy took the Caped Crusader and made him feel like a more grounded, believable vigilante who could feasibly exist. This approach extended to the trilogy’s villains, and even, in many ways, its stories. However, there is one small but major plot development in The Dark Knight Rises that makes Nolan’s characters look like the dumbest assembly of movie characters ever.

As part of Bane (and Talia al Ghul)’s plan to take Gotham, they trap the city’s entire police force in the sewer by luring them in and collapsing the tunnels. It serves its purpose within the story, but it really doesn’t make all the much sense. Why would an entire city’s police force enter the sewers at exactly the same time? If that doesn’t violate protocol, then it’s no wonder that Gotham is so overrun with criminals, because the GCPD must be the dumbest cops ever to grace a movie screen.

What makes it worse is that the decision doesn’t lie with one person. Any number of those trapped policemen could have stood up for common sense and pointed out how ridiculous a decision that really was, but instead almost the entire GCPD ended up trapped waist-deep in sewage. It was a dumb decision, and it was one they almost instantly regretted.
