Recently, we looked at some of the dumbest movie decisions of all time. As everybody knows, though, movie characters are far, far stupider than normal humans. Therefore, it turns out that there’s an awful lot more dumb movie decisions to explore.
There are many reasons that a character might make a stupid decision. Sometimes, the decision is fueled by emotion. Other times, it’s born of ignorance. Sometimes, it’s made for no other reason than to advance the plot in a very specific way, even though it flies in the face of all logic and reason.
Some of the following bad movie decisions were met with immediate consequences, while others were far more subtle. There are even some that have the film’s (or franchise’s) entire story hinge upon that one awful choice, and those are perhaps the dumbest of all. Regardless of where they rate on the stupidity scale, here are 8 more of the dumbest decisions ever made in movies.
8. Star-Lord Vs Thanos – Avengers: Infinity War

To start, let’s have one of the most notoriously stupid decisions ever made in a movie. That is to say, let’s examine the actions of Star-Lord in Avengers: Infinity War. Though it’s been often examined and debated, the general consensus is that this was one of the worst decisions that any Marvel hero could have possibly made in the Infinity Saga.
After Thanos manages to assemble the Infinity Stones, he becomes incredibly powerful. Not just like superpowers-powerful, but half-the-population-of-the-universe-dead-at-a-snap-of-the-fingers-powerful. The problem is, that one of those Stones requires sacrificing the person you love the most. Thanos kills his adopted daughter, Gamora, one-time love interest of Star-Lord.
After the Avengers’ collective might was just barely able to best Thanos and restrain him, Star-Lord suddenly realizes what Thanos had done. This causes him to attack the restrained Titan, leading to him breaking free and enacting his plan to wipe out half of all life in the universe. That horrific crime was made possible by Star-Lord’s emotional outburst, making the moment one of the worst choices imaginable within the MCU.
