5. Turning on Pacific Playland’s Power – Zombieland

Pacific Playland in Zombieland 2009

So, Zombieland may have also featured on the previous list, but it actually features two of the dumbest movie decisions ever made. Maybe it’s something about the zombie apocalypse that makes Zombieland‘s characters much dumber than they should be, but this one is almost baffling in its sheer idiocy. Important context: Zombieland‘s zombies are the sort of dumb, shambling type of undead that are drawn to noises, lights, and smells.

After running away from the ground, Wichita (Emma Stone) and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) set off for Pacific Playland, a California theme park they’d always wanted to visit. It makes sense that they’d want to enjoy themselves – after all, they’re grinding out survival day by day in a zombie-infested wasteland. However, with absolutely no thought for their own safety or the consequences of the action, the sisters switch on the park’s power, drawing hundreds of zombies from all around in their direction.

This is particularly dumb as the girls have already proven themselves to be smart, wily, and resourceful, especially when it comes to survival. Making such a rookie mistake is far beyond these characters, but they make it anyway, and they are immediately rewarded with a swarm of hungry zombies clamoring for a taste of their flesh. Stuck on a ride, the two girls are entirely dependent on being saved by Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) and Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), who ride in to their rescue (having been smart enough not to draw the attention of every zombie within a three-mile radius, they have an advantage).
