5. Sweet Girl (2021) – Jason Momoa Is Actually A 5ft Girl
Action thriller Sweet Girl never seemed to be narrative gold, but its twist was still surprisingly dumb. It tells the story of Ray (Jason Momoa), who becomes obsessed with getting revenge on the pharmaceutical company responsible for his wife’s death. As he leaves a growing pile of bodies in his wake, Ray is joined on his crusade by his daughter, Rachel (Isabela Merced).
Naturally, most of the action is carried out by the hulking Momoa as young Rachel looks on in horror. However, a final act twist reveals that Ray was actually killed at the beginning of the movie, and that Rachel has imagined her father’s presence while she herself commits increasingly violent acts. How incredibly original.
The thing is, Sweet Girl tries to convince its audience that a young woman who is approximately 5 feet tall is capable of the same physical feats as a man of Jason Momoa’s size and stature. Ray/Rachel is shown throughout the movie physically overpowering massive henchmen with relative ease, calling into question just how plausible the twist really is. Sweet Girl seems to think it’s incredibly clever, but its plot twist really is one of the dumbest out there.
