6. Se7en

David Fincher’s Se7en is rightfully considered one of the greatest crime thrillers of all time, and for good reason. It’s a film that’s totally unique and as deeply layered as it is bleak. It also features one of the most unforgettable movie endings of all time – one secretly visually foreshadowed throughout the film.
As Detectives Mills and Somerset find themselves sinking deeper into their investigation of the John Doe murders, Mills spends less time with his wife Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow). The film ends with the shocking reveal that she was Doe’s final victim, as Mills is delivered a box containing her severed head. However, Fincher’s framing of Tracy’s scenes actually foreshadows her grisly end.
Tracy is only shown from the shoulder’s up, and the lower half of her body is never seen. It’s remarkably subtle, but it’s undeniably there, and it seems far more significant on a rewatch. It certainly doesn’t give anything away, but this particular foreshadowing seems especially dark given the film’s ending.
