5. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire (2005)

Generally speaking, the Harry Potter franchise made only minor changes to the source material, but of all its movies, Goblet of Fire handled its book the worst. As one of the longest books in the series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire certainly proved a challenge for the filmmakers, and decisions were made as to what should be kept and what should be cut. Unfortunately, this hurt both its story and the franchise as a whole.
There’s a great deal of the source material that the film left out, but none bigger than two relatively major characters. Ludo Bagman and Winky the house-elf were both notable in their absence, with entire subplots being cut as a result. And, though they weren’t technically crucial to the plot, they did enrich the story and the wider franchise. Bagman offered greater insight into the Wizarding community and the sport of Quidditch, and Winky prompted Hermione to from the house-elf activism group S.P.E.W. Natually, this never came to pass in the films.
We might consider it an overrated movie franchise, but it still deserved a little better. Goblet of Fire also left out a great deal of exposition that was quietly necessary, and the film felt far more hollow than the book as a result. Though it was probably unavoidable given the book’s length, it was still pretty disappointing. We just want justice for Winky, to be honest.
