1. The Percy Jackson Movie Franchise

We are aware that this list has been half-filled with young adult fiction-based entries. Even so, there’s no other franchise that could have taken the top spot. Yes, we’re talking about Percy Jackson.
Let’s be fair, the Percy Jackson series has a genius premise: modern-day demigod teenages running around among us. Part fantasy, part Greek mythology, there’s an awful lot to love. At least, there was, before Hollywood got its claws into Percy.
To start things off, the films aged up its core cast members by a few years, effectively hobbling its own chances to properly adapt the book series. (If you don’t understand how that works, imagine if Harry Potter had been 15 in the first movie and you should get it.) Then, it fiddled with various plot points for essentially no reason. Even so, the first film was at least somewhat passable.
The second film, subtitled Sea of Monsters, killed the franchise dead. It borrowed major plot points from multiple entries in the book series, well and truly laying any hope fans had for further sequels to rest. To be honest, with the potential the two films wasted, it was probably a kindness there wasn’t any more.
