3. Edge Of Tomorrow (2014)
Listen, we love time loop stories. Some of the tropes involved might feel a little played out, but the general concept is always fun. It’s even more fun when you incorporate high-stakes, big-budget sci-fi action into the mix, just like Edge of Tomorrow did.
Starring Tom Cruise as a self-assured military man who has managed to avoid fighting the overwhelming alien war machine, Edge of Tomorrow sees him thrown headlong into the action. However, when he realizes he’s living the same day over and over, he begins to understand that he has a rare opportunity to turn the tide of the war. Alongside Cruise, Edge of Tomorrow stars Emily Blunt as a fellow soldier with first-hand experience of time loops.
Though the film ends with a decisive blow against the aliens, the war is far from over. It’s all too clear that there are more stories to tell in the aftermath of Edge of Tomorrow, and we’re starting to feel like we’re in a time loop waiting for it. Potential idea for the sequel: Edge of Next Week?
