4. A Double Life Exposed – Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

One of the most beloved comedies of all time, Mrs. Doubtfire also boasts one of the most disastrous movie meals ever committed to film. The movie follows Daniel Hillard (Robin Williams) as he attempts to reconnect with his estranged wife and children through the persona of an elderly Scottish nanny named Mrs. Doubtfire. Though the ruse initially works, Daniel’s secret is strained when he and Mrs. Doubfire must attend separate dinners at the same restaurant.
Daniel starts the evening juggling between his business meeting (as himself) and a family meal (as Doubtfire), but after becoming increasingly inebriated, cracks begin to show. The constant switching back and forth, combined with the alcohol, results in the mask figuratively beginning to slip. Then, when Daniel’s ex-wife’s new boyfriend begins to choke, the mask quite literally slips, revealing his deceit to his family.
What makes the meal so disastrous is the slow build-up to the inevitable catastrophe. Daniel’s lies had threatened to catch up with him for some time, but it all comes to light in the most public and embarrassing of forums. What makes it even worse is that not just one meal gets ruined, but two.
