5. Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990)
Tagline: “He puts the teeth in terror.”
Horror movie franchises are generally pretty hit and miss, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is no exception. Despite the original remaining a horror classic, modern reboots like Texas Chainsaw Massacre have been truly disappointing. Back in 1990, the third film in the franchise was awful in a different way: it had one of the all-time worst movie taglines.
“He puts the teeth in terror” is one of the most confusing taglines we’ve ever heard. Leatherface is shown to have some pretty messed up teeth in the film, which is perhaps what the tagline is referring to, but it’s far from the character’s defining trait. (That would probably be the mask of human skin he made from his victims’ remains.)
To make a bad tagline worse, why are there teeth in terror? Is terror known to have a set of pearly whites? Are we missing something? Decades later, we still have no idea what this one means.
