2. Paycheck (2003)

Tagline: “Remember the Future”
Paycheck is one of those movies that you’d think people would remember, but they generally don’t. It boasts an all-star cast featuring Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman, Aaron Eckhart, Paul Giamatti, Colm Feore, Michael C. Hall, and Joe Morton. It also boasts a delightfully terrible tagline.
Based on a story by Philip K. Dick, Paycheck is the sort of near-future sci-fi that features “realistic” technology. With the main character undergoing memory wipes to protect his clients’ confidentiality, it predictably tells the story of a man trying to recover lost memories. The tagline “remember the future” sort of references this. Sort of.
Not only is the phrase nonsensical, but it’s needlessly complex for something so short. In just three words, it manages to communicate that Paycheck is both convoluted and unintelligent. Though that’s an impressive feat, it’s still a laughable tagline.
