3. Does John “Robin” Blake Become Batman After The Dark Knight Rises?

After The Dark Knight failed to explain the origins of the Joker’s scars, its successor went even further. After it ended with Batman’s apparent sacrifice, the movie simply kept going, explaining that he actually survived to live a peaceful life as Bruce Wayne. It also ends with the reveal that plucky police officer and part-time Batman assistant John Blake is actually named “Robin”. It closes with Blake uncovering Bruce Wayne’s Batcave, hinting that he’ll take over on vigilante duty.
The thing is, the film does very little to indicate what Blake’s intentions actually are. Does he just want to uncover Batman’s identity or is he looking to step up and be a hero? Also, if he does become a vigilante, would he be the next Batman or would he be Robin? These questions, and any others on similar subjects, simply don’t get any answers.
In theory, it doesn’t matter. The idea is that Blake will try to continue Batman’s work in Gotham one way or another. Still, the fact that the “Robin” reveal comes so late in the film makes the unanswered question sting all the more. We won’t hold our breath for the John Blake trilogy, though.
