1. Elves (1989)

Elves isn’t exactly a well-known film, nor does it deserve to be. However, it does have quite possibly the weirdest of all Christmas movie premises, as it combines some of the strangest ideas ever assembled in a single movie. If you love late-‘80s low-budget creature features, Elves is one for you.
Have you ever imagined what Christmas might be like if Hitler had engineered a race of half-human, half-elf monstrosities? Well, you don’t need to, because Elves does it for you: a group of teens performing an anti-Christmas ritual accidentally summon one of the creatures, which serves as a figure of a Neo-Nazi plot inspired by the apparent wishes of the late Hitler. Y’know, normal Christmas stuff.
It borrows a few ideas from Gremlins, and a few from Leprechaun. It then throws in a whole mess of Nazi-related nonsense just to really mix up its messages, and delivers a big steaming bundle of Christmas codswallop. When it comes to the weirdest Christmas movie premises, it’s hard to argue that Elves deserves to be way up there.
