2. “You Shouldn’t Have Killed My Mom & Squished My Walkman.”
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
On balance, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has one of the most emotionally powerful stories in the entire MCU. It follows the Guardians as Star-Lord meets his father, the Celestial Ego, and unknowingly embraces the destiny his progenitor had planned for him. However, upon learning the truth about Ego, everything begins to go wrong. Once Star-Lord is in his power, Ego crushes his Walkman to stop his music, then reveals that he was responsible for the death of his mother Meredith.
This is enough to snap Star-Lord out of his trance, prompting him to utter the immortal line: “You shouldn’t have killed my mom and squished my Walkman.” It’s such a childish line in such a serious and emotionally charged moment that it induces a wave of second-hand embarrassment for most viewers. Even so, considering Star-Lord’s torment, we’ll happily forgive him, as the line is followed by an outburst that nearly gets him and all of his friends killed. He was clearly upset.
