9. Uncharted (2022)

Mark Wahlberg as Victor "Sully" Sullivan and Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in Uncharted (2022)

Uncharted is undeniably a divisive film. After spending over a decade languishing in development hell, it finally landed in theaters in 2022 to a lukewarm reception. Starring Tom Holland as protagonist Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan, Uncharted tells the story of a globe-trotting hunt for ancient treasure.

Based on the well-loved series of action-adventure titles, Uncharted failed to win over many of the franchise’s fans. However, a number of the issues taken with the film could actually be considered strengths. Instead of directly adapting one of the games, the Uncharted movie took a different approach. It told a unique reimagining of its characters’ backstories that managed to be both independent from the games while honoring their stories.

It’s easy to see how long-time fans took exception, but honestly, Uncharted is a pretty good movie. It makes use of the series’ iconic platforming sequences with several impressively choreographed stunts, and features exactly the sort of treasure-hunting action that the franchise is known for. As divisive as it may sound, this honestly ranks Uncharted among the best video game movies of all time, even if it wasn’t for everyone.
