6. Dutch – Predator (1987)

Luckiest movie heroes - Arnold Schwarzenegger as Dutch Schaefer in Predator (1987)

Predator might be an ’80s Schwarzenegger classic, but that also means it comes with a conveniently invincible protagonist. Dutch Schaefer may well be highly-trained in covert military operations, but that still isn’t enough to prepare him for the Predator. After all, he’s just one very well-muscled man against a huge, technologically-advanced extraterrestrial with decades if not centuries of human-hunting experience.

Just how easy Dutch should be for the Predator to kill is made very clear throughout the movie. The alien takes pleasure in picking off his equally highly-trained squadmates one by one, and Dutch is the last man standing by luck alone. However, his good fortune doesn’t end there.

Admittedly, realizing that mud will hide his heat signature from the alien was smart. But, as its decision to just immediately self-destruct upon losing a fight was unexpected, Dutch had no way of knowing it would happen. Once the sequence starts, he just kind of runs away, and somehow manages to get clear of the blast. In a film full of muscled men having their spines ripped out and their skin flayed off, Dutch Schaefer is just the last – and therefore the luckiest – man left standing.
