3. John Connor – The Terminator Franchise

Edward Furlong as John Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Given that the Terminator franchise vaguely with themes of determinism and fate, luck might seem out of the question. Caught up as he is in a time-bending story about futuristic wars and killer robots, John Connor certainly doesn’t seem lucky. In reality, he is. (Well, not reality, because it’s The Terminator, but still.)

The first film sees his pregnant mother targeted by killer robots from the future. The second film sees him as a child targeted by even more advanced killer robots from the future. The third film… well, you get the picture.

The idea that John Connor is destined to save humanity from evil machines is basically central to the whole franchise. Even so, what are the odds that an unborn baby, pre-teen child, or drug-addled adult would successfully evade multiple computerized assassins? Even with the help of repurposed T-800s, his continued survival still smacks as much of luck as it does of fate.
