1. Hannibal Lecter

Likable horror movie villains - Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Murder and cannibalism is undeniably gruesome, and it makes Hannibal Lecter one of the most starkly horrifying movie characters of all time. That said, he’s still one of the most likable horror movie villains there is, simply because he’s not pure evil. He’s intelligent, he’s complex, and he’s not without humanity.

He doesn’t mind helping to catch other killers, and he’s not above admitting that he’s something of a monster. The thing is, he’s also capable of holding an intelligent conversation, and he’s an incredibly interesting character. As terrifying as he is, he’s still someone we wouldn’t mind chatting to, and he’s got a certain charm to him that radiates out of his creepily piercing eyes.

We’re not saying he deserves to be free or anything, but Hannibal Lecter is sort of a nice guy. Put aside the cannibalism and grisly murders, and he’s an inherently likable figure. Part of this is down to good writing and part to Anthony Hopkins’ brilliant performance, but ultimately, he’s the most likable horror movie villain there is.
