12. Oppenheimer

Scheduled release date: 21 July 2023
Take an auteur filmmaker and give them the freedom to make a biopic about one of the darkest developments in human history. Give them any actor they ask for to make it. Let them create an actual nuclear explosion for the sake of the film. Do all of that, and you’ll have Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie.
Of course, the combination of Nolan and Cillian Murphy alone is enough to build some excitement, but factor in the rest of the film’s ensemble of A-listers and you’ve got a guaranteed winner. Even ignoring the fact that Oppenheimer has perhaps the most impressive cast ever assembled, it’s still got a truly fascinating story in the invention of the atomic bomb. Either way, it’s guaranteed to make a splash.
11. Wonka

Scheduled release date: 15 December 2023
Taking a beloved character and casting one of the world’s hottest young actors to play him is a recipe for magic on par with the Roald Dahl books that Willy Wonka strolled right out of. With Timothée Chalamet in the lead role, Wonka is set to tell the origin story of the eccentric chocolatier in a musical format. Alongside Chalamet, Keegan Michael-Key, Sally Hawkins, Matt Lucas, Olivia Colman, and Rowan Atkinson are all set to appear.
Directed by Paul King (Paddington), Wonka is surely set to be a whimsical journey into the candyman’s past. Although details on the film remain somewhat scarce, just the caliber of the names attached is enough to pique anyone’s interest. Wonka is set for a December release, making it prime family fare for the festive period.
