9. January Jones – X-Men: First Class (2011)

TV actors you forgot had movie roles - January Jones as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class (2011)

The X-Men franchise has been fraught with issues since the mid-’00s, so it’s probably not that surprising that a major TV actor skipped by in her role within it. Though X-Men: First Class wasn’t quite the earnest attempt for a reboot that we’d hoped for, it was a generally enjoyable blockbuster that took its mutant action to the 1960s. Among its ensemble cast of mutants was none other than January Jones as Emma Frost.

Without even a shred of doubt, Jones is near-universally remembered for her role in Mad Men. She appeared as Betty Draper, protagonist Don Draper’s long-suffering wife (and later ex-wife) for the entirety of Mad Men‘s seven-season run. Despite having racked up a handful of movie credits, X-Men: First Class is undoubtedly her most substantial.

Even so, Jones is pretty forgettable as Emma Frost. Though the character is a staple of the X-Men comics, the film’s version of the diamond-skinned mutant failed to impress. Just as First Class was a little underwhelming, so too was Jones’ big movie break, and she just sort of skated by in the role.
