1. Nexus
Though he isn’t part of either the Marvel or DC Universes, Nexus is chief among comic book heroes who deserve their own movies. Published throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, Nexus’s story combines sci-fi and superhero tropes, with its titular hero fighting evil 500 years into Earth’s future. Though he’s something of a niche figure today, this could actually contribute to his success on the big screen.
Nexus is the alter ego od Horatio Hellpop, who receives his powers from an alien entity called the Merk. He’s tasked with killing a specific number of human mass murderers, reluctantly complying in order to keep his powers for the protection of his homeworld. It’s a rich and pulpy sci-fi story that has all the hallmarks of a modern classic.
Reviving Nexus’s story with a movie would be perfect. It could combine cinema’s love of superhero movies with the epic scale of a space opera, finally giving Nexus the platform it deserves. What’s more, there’s no extended universe to consider, meaning that a franchise wouldn’t need to be a consideration – just a solid standalone story that brings Nexus to life on the big screen.
